We are a government / public organisation. We are a municipal primary health care facility providing HIV and TB-related treatment, care and support services. We have a community oriented primary health care programme that monitors and proactively works towards the improved health and wellbeing of families in our area. We provide HIV counselling and testing (HCT) and if necessary are able to take specimens and send them to our nearest laboratory to determine the CD4 cell count and viral load. We are an accredited antiretroviral (ARV) treatment initiation and on-going treatment site. We refer patients to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Mufulo Community Health Centre and to Bheki Mlangeni Hospital if they require further treatment. We run a monthly support group for TB and HIV-positive patients. We provide assessments and referrals for people with mental health issues. Right to Care's Adult HIV and Paediatric HIV programmes supports the clinical care and treatment of individuals infected with HIV and associated diseases. Care and treatment is accessible through an integrated model that includes prevention, transition into care, treatment adherence, and nurse initiated and managed ARV treatment (NIMART) . Loss-to-follow-up is minimised using innovative approaches, such as automated text messages and patient transfers with electronic records. On-site and didactic training are provided to clinicians in the public and private sectors. In each province, centres of excellence are hubs for mentoring and training and for referrals of complicated cases. In its first ten years of operation, Right to Care initiated over 230 000 patients on ARV therapy.

Founded in 1999, HEAPS key objective was to serve as conduit for funding for 10 community based organizations providing palliative care services to HIV and TB infected residents between 2002 to 2005. In 2006-8 HEAPS was one of the NGO's that founded the mentoring resources network to provide capacity building to local CBO's with funding from the Netherlands Embassy and the National Department of Health. In 2009 on wards HEAPS began to provide direct HIV and AIDS services to the communities in MP, FS and GP provinces after the mentored CBO's became independent and received grants from the provincial department of Health.
