The main objective of the Union is to look after the interest of its members and to foster a spirit of unison among workers in general. Our organisation has been formed by the workers, for the workers, to represent their rights and interests in the workplace and to improve working conditions and wages.

Solidarity is your partner, your older brother in the workplace, as it were - the one who has been protecting its members' rights against exploitation in the workplace since 1902; the one who even creates job security for you as a professional individual.

NUM's strength is ensuring that its members are protected from health and safety hazards and where there is negligence the company must adequately effect compensation.

SATAWU, was formed in 2000 after a series of negotiations and smaller scale mergers by unions in the transport industry. SATAWU organises workers in the transport sector as well as security and cleaning companies. The sectors include railways, harbours, parastatals, aviation, passenger transport (buses and taxis) freight (trucking), contract, cleaning and security.

NAPTOSA is the second largest teachers union in the education sector and operates in the ELRC under the name of the Combined Trade Unions (CTU), called CTU and SAOU.
