Tin Roof Taverna
Riebeek Kasteel, South Africa
She is one of the grand old dames of the valley; a 100-and-something year-old manor house that guards Riebeek Kasteel's south-eastern entrance on Hermon Road. Her exact age is a mystery, courtesy of a fire that destroyed the building plans at Malmesbury municipality in the early part of the 20th century. She's been sleeping guests, feeding strangers and quenching thirsts for almost two decades and as far as we can gather we are the fourth set of owners to open her doors. In doing so, we gave her a complete facelift. "This is no ordinary restaurant, bar and guest house. Mexican angels live here. So does a huge chairman Mao. It is a captivating place. Lots of yum right here... simple comfort food, slow-cooked, very South African, stylishly presented... The coolest country spot outside Cape Town. ? ? ? - Country Life, October 2016

Café Felix
Riebeek Kasteel, South Africa
The restaurant was named after Felix, the original owners' cheeky black cat. (Felix was a throwaway cat rescued from a certain death in Wynberg park) . It was later discovered that there are many other Café Felix's around the globe, producing an interesting variety of food. Felix the cat is unfortunately not with us any more, but in his place we now have Felix the parakeet! This free spirit has made his home in the old oak tree and has become our mascot. The History The restaurant building dates back to the same age as the main guesthouse i. e. about 1860. This building started life as a tobacco barn. The only old elements remaining today are the thick clay brick walls. One of the previous owners used the property as an office for an estate agency. According to him the first ever property deal was clinched in this same building. The building was extensively renovated in 2005 with the addition of a new kitchen, conservatory, loft accommodation and extension of the inside ...
