St. Mary’s (RC) Primary was founded by the Holy Cross Sisters on 8 April 1934. The sisters come to do missionary work in Retreat, but soon realised that the community needed a school. For the next 37 years, the principals were Holy Cross Sisters. The first lay person appointed in 1971 was Mr Darling, who retired in 1990. Ms Muller succeeded him in 1991 and is still the principal. At first the Medium of instruction at St Mary’s was Afrikens but the school became dual medium in 1975. Today the LOLT is English. In 2010, we opened our computer lab, which was funded by Irish donors. It is still going well and lessons are offered to the parents.

Holy Cross Convent School Brooklyn in Cape Town offers holistic primary education for boys and girls from Pre-Grade R to Grade 7. The school has avariety of extra-mural activitis and offers music and computer classes.

Derop was die klooster, die kerk en twee klaskamers opgerig. (Sub A tot Std. 1 en Std. 2 tot Std. 6) . Na die Primêre Skool was der voorsienig gemek vin 'n 3 jer Neldwerkopleidings-kursus vir meisies. In Januarie 1954 het die Oblate-Susters die klooster en skool te Koelenhof oorgeneem. Sr. Marie-Agnes en Sr. Francoise-Augustine het 90 leerlinge onderwys, mer die deropvolgende jer word 'n derde klaskamer bygevoeg en nog 'n onderwyseres was nodig. In Oktober 1959 ...

Star of the Sea School is uniquely situated along a beautiful stretch of False Bay coastline in St. James, Cape Town, South Africa. It is a school with a long history, its buildings having been completed in 1908. As a Catholic Dominican School, Star of the Sea has a distinctive religious character. St James Roman Catholic Primary is the oldest school on the False Bay coastline and over many years of existence has maintained its distinctive character as that of a community school, serving its people. Our school has a unique and interesting history, tracing its roots back to Father John Duignam. A mosaic on the present post office of St James depicts the arrival of a group of Filipino fisherman, survivors of a shipwreck, who settled there in 1840. Being devout Catholics, they needed a church closer to Simon’s Town, to which they were obliged to sail every Sunday for Mass, weather permitting. On the 5th of October 1858, the foundation stone of the first church was laid and named St James in honour of the Apostle and Fisherman, and also the Patron Saint of Spain from where the Filipino’s mother tongue came. There is evidence that a school for the fisherman’s children existed in Kalk Bay, but when Father Duignam arrived in 1874 the school was transferred to St James...

Marian High was founded by three Dominican Sisters in 1931 and classes were initially held in a tent and in the church to accommodate the growing number of students. The Sisters financed the school entirely and it was only later on in the school’s history that parents were asked to contribute financially. In the 1950’s / 1960’s the school began to accommodate more students from the surrounding areas and operated as a private school where parents were required to pay fees. The school continued to grow in numbers and in the 1970’s Marian was one of the first schools to open its doors and accept isiXhosa speaking learners. In 1976, the school became a state-aided school with financial support from the government. As the sisters moved out of the convent, more of the convent buildings could be used for classrooms and the chapel was converted into a school hall. Immaculata was founded in January 1947, out of a need to provide Catholic high school education for the students graduating from St Augustine's primary school in Wittebome. It was founded and managed by Dominican sisters, and to this day still carries a strong Dominican influence and Christian ethos. Sr Henrietta Riordan was the first principal. The school received its namesake after the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Although originally a co-ed school, Immaculata became a girls only school when it was recommended by the General of the Domincan Order in Ireland that the genders be taught separately. The student body now comprises of 520 students and 21 educators. Regina Coeli RC Primary School was established in 1962. The present school building was formerly a mineral water factory which was converted into classrooms to cater for the increasing demand by parents in the area. The school is situated along Klipfontein Road in Athlone, Western Cape. The school originally offered classes from Sub-A to Standard 2 with less than 100 learners and taught by a staff of 5 teachers.
