The South African Policing Union (SAPU) was established in November 1993 and has an extensive membership within the policing cluster which includes the South African Police Service (SAPS), Department of Correctional Service (DCS), Metro Police Departments and Traffic Departments. SAPU is a multi-ideological organization which embraces people from all different political formation. As a result, we are compelled to be an a-political party. The SAOU is a teachers' union, dedicated to the highest universal values and values of service delivery. We are a strong professional body with the power to negotiate salaries and conditions of service with the employer, and to represent members in grievances and disputes. Maintaining sound relations with the employer and other unions is also important to us. SAOU members are provided with, among others, valuable financial services.
