Cato Manor was once the site of forced removals - it is now a site of multi million development. This centre attempts to portray the fascinating history of the Cato Manor area.
The William Campbell picture collection contains one of South Africa's finest collections of work by black South African artists such as Jabulani Ntuli, Gerard Benghu and Dsmt Mnguni. The collection also includes 250 paintings by Barbara Tyrell, depicting Zulu social life and customs. The museum is still furnished much as it was when the Campbell family was still there. Viewing by appointment only.
Old House Museum

Replica of the original George Robinson home built in 1850. It belonged to George Robinson (early editor of the Mercury) and then to his son Sir John Robinson, First Prime Minister of Natal during the 1890's. The Msunduzi Museum

Since the 1990's, the Msunduzi Museum in Pietermaritzburg an agency of the National Department of Arts and Culture has been transformed from a historically single-themed museum to one that depicts the heritage of different cultural groups of KwaZulu-Natal. The museum was created in 1912 as a tribute to the Voortrekkers. Voortrekker history is the main focus in the Voortrekker Complex, i. e. the historic Church of the Vow, the Andries Pretorius House and the E. G. Jansen Extension. The Voortrekker Memorial Church and historic Church Hall were also recently acquired for the Museum by the National Department of Arts and Culture The Main building is home to a variety of cultural-history exhibitions which are also constantly being upgraded and expanded, like ' A Tapestry of Cultures' on the Mezzanine floor. Phansi Museum

The Phansi Museum private collection of Southern African tribal artifacts is beautifully displayed in the basement rooms of Robert's house-a Victorian historical monument. To get there from the CBD - follow Sydney Road out of town for 1, 9km. Turn right into Franks Road (directly after Timber City) go over Umbilo Road to Frere Road (0. 6km) turn left and go up the hill (0. 4km) . At the top of the corner of Cedar Road is the rambling double storey-Roberts house.
