The South African Mobility for the Blind Trust (SAMBT) specialises in Independence training for blind and partially-sighted people. We were formed in 1998 and are a registered Non-profit Organisation. We have an outreach approach and we operate nationally in areas that are under-served or not served at all, i. e. rural areas and townships. Our programmes are community-based and we also run programmes at schools for the blind.
The SANCB is a network of organisations who collaborate towards securing the full participation and inclusion of blind and partially sighted people in all aspects of a diverse South African society as well as promoting the prevention of blindness.
We provide Guide Dogs, Service Dogs, Autism Support Dogs, and Orientation and Mobility. Our mission is to enhance the lives of visually and physically impaired people and children with autism.
The Kwazulu-Natal Society for the Blind (KZN-SB) was established in 1919 and has evolved into a dynamic organization offering a multi-disciplinary approach to access to human rights related services for blind and partially sighted people of KwaZulu-Natal. The organisation prides itself for successful service delivery focusing on the following areas of work: Early Childhood Development (ECD) ; Skills development - computer, Braille and cane weaving training; Orientation and mobility; Providing Optometric clinic, in partnership with Brian Holden Institute; Providing residential facility for blind and partial sighted people; Ensuring access to quality rehabilitation services for blind and partial sighted people; and Economic Empowerment and business development skills The organisation was awarded 'Proudly South African' status for the period of 2003 - 2013.
