When fiery Methodist evangelist William Booth decided in 1865 that he could no longer preach the Christian Gospel to the poor and wretched of England unless he also put food into their stomachs, he probably did not imagine that the movement he started would grow into a worldwide organisation. Today, nearly 150 years later, The ...

The Deaf Federation of South Africa (DeafSA) acts as the national research, information and community action organisation on behalf of ± 600 000 South Africans that are culturally and linguistically Deaf. DeafSA, formerly known as the South African National Council for the Deaf (SANCD), was founded in 1929. And in 1995 the former SANCD was transformed to a new democratically elected organisation, namely, Deaf Federation of South Africa (DeafSA) . This resulted in a paradigm shift from an organisation for the Deaf to one of the Deaf. The changes in the constitution and attitudes also meant that decisions about the services and affairs of Deaf people were no longer taken by hearing people on behalf of Deaf people - but by the Deaf people. At present 100% of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of DeafSA are Deaf.

Jo'burg Child Welfare (JCW) is driven by the belief that every human being deserves a childhood free from abuse and neglect. For over 100 years JCW has assisted children who have been abused, abandoned, neglected, consented for adoption, orphaned or made vulnerable (including the many who are infected with or have been affected by HIV and AIDS) . Our team of dedicated and highly qualified professionals work tirelessly to extend vital care and support to underprivileged children, families and communities in Johannesburg. JCW believes that if our children suffer, our community and society suffers too and we therefore seek to build a society where children are cared for and parents and caregivers are supported, creating an atmosphere where our children can grow up strong, safe and happy.

Here in Africa we welcome opportunity. We greet friends and strangers alike with a purposeful, well-meaning ‘hello’ in all the languages of our colourful continent. In much the same way as Africans, we are resolute in our determination to show the disease of Malaria that it is no longer welcome on our continent. It is our wish and our will to say ‘Goodbye Malaria’ in as many colourful languages and by as many engaging means as is necessary to rid us of Malaria once and for all.
