Alicedale Primary was named after Princess Alice. At the time, her husband, the Earl of Athlone, was the Governor at the Cape. The school was officially opened in July 1940 with an enrolment of 210 learners and a staff of 4 teachers. Mr C. Matthews was the first principal who was succeeded by Mr Little in 1965. Mr C. M. M. Jansen served as principal since 1969 and served for 25 years. Mr I. Swartz succeeded Mr Jansen. Mrs Rossiter succeeded Mr Swartz. Mrs F. Daries succeeded Mrs Rossiter. Mr I Morkel is currently the acting principal. Learners hail from the immediate area as well as from the surrounding townships. Regina Coeli RC Primary School was established in 1962. The present school building was formerly a mineral water factory which was converted into classrooms to cater for the increasing demand by parents in the area. The school is situated along Klipfontein Road in Athlone, Western Cape. The school originally offered classes from Sub-A to Standard 2 with less than 100 learners and taught by a staff of 5 teachers. Currently the school offers classes from Grade R to Grade 7 with an enrolment of 324 learners. As previous principals have stated, “We are on big happy family. ” The Regina Cæli or Regina Cœli ("Queen of Heaven", pronounced [re'd? ina 't? eli] in ecclesiastical Latin), is an ancient Latin Marian Hymn of the Catholic Church. The senior learners of the school undertook tours, in the past, to places in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Port Elizabeth and Durban. The school and church were founded on the 3rd of October, 1935, the feast day of St Theresa, the Little Flower. Initially the church building was used as the same venue for classes, and was cleaned for mass and rearranged as a classroom on Mondays. Sister Brigid, later known as Sister Vera Marie, was the first principal and was joined by two founding educators and four learners. After 1945 the school received a grant from the government and also received a free feeding scheme. The school grew with the help of Father Alban and we were very proud to introduce our first 'coloured' principal, Sister Alphons Padua in 1953. The school continued to grow and by 1969 the school was so overcrowded that Sister Mary Agnes had to let 500 learners and educators go to Vanguard Primary, however they all returned the very next day.
