Noordhoek Common is a lovely public park that is great for picnics. Noordhoek common is a public open space with two streams that run through it. There is loads of space and you can fly kites and play lawn cricket or soccer. It is a perfect place to meet up with family and friends on sunny days and have a picnic.

Helderberg Farm is a family friendly farm, located just outside of Somerset West. We are open daily from 08: 00 to 17: 00 (Closed on Good Friday & Christmas Day) . For a dinner with a difference, pack a picnic basket, grab a bottle of wine, a blanket and head to the look-out point at Signal Hill. This well known spot in Cape Town is popular with tourists and locals alike as an ideal venue to appreciate the stunning views of the Atlantic Seaboard, and to watch the sunset. Signal Hill used to be used as a post for communication with ships at sea, hence the name Signal Hill. The traditional firing of the noon gun cannon can be viewed Monday to Saturday at the end of Military Road. Get there early to avoid missing out.

Alternatively, you can hike up with all your picnic gear through Skeleton Gorge, Platteklip Gorge or Nursery Ravine.

Leentjiesklip is a portion of Wilderness Beach and is situated at the far western corner of Wilderness beach. The Wilderness Beach itself stretches from Kleinkrans to the mouth of the Keimans River estuary. Leentjiesklip and Leentjiesklip Beach are easily accessed from the N2. From Wilderness Village, turn into Station Road and again right into Sands Road. When you reach the beach you will find limited parking, clean ablutions facilities, sand-off foot shower and a brei (barbeque) and picnic area. The Leentjiesklip area is popular with for sunbathing, fishing, whale watching, birding and it also serves as a landing strip for hang-gliders and para-gliders. Fishermen come to this beach for a variety of fish species found in the area. More commonly caught are kabeljou, blactail, steenbrass, galjoen, mullet elf (shad) and the occasional spotted grunter.

Perl Mountain Nature Reserve has a range of picnic sites scattered near caves, waterfalls, huge granite rocks, and reservoirs.

Meandering through Doolhof Estate is the picturesque Kromme River, which is supplemented by Gawie-se-Water. The River Walk, which was created in 2007, allows visitors to enjoy the scenic views on offer at Doolhof. One can follow the meandering path for several kilometres and stop at any one of the designated picnic sites along the walk. Visitors are welcome to enjoy a 10km walk through the vineyards. Doolhof, which is known for its mysterious hills and vales, is also home to many small mammals, including buck, porcupine, baboons and even leopard and who knows - you might even come across the Minotaur! Vast open grassy spaces, and plenty of trees for shade, just perfect for relaxing in nature and enjoying an afternoon picnic. Resting in a Valley this picnic site offers beautiful scenery, tranquility and some forest exploring for the family. There is an easy, short 450m walk in the forest beneath the huge tree ferns and small trickling streams. The forest floor path can be slippery so do be careful when walking over tree roots and logs. Another a slightly more strenuous walk takes visitors to the incredibly beautiful Spitzkop viewpoint overlooking the Knysna Heads. An ideal day outing for the whole family & be sure to remember your camera! Situated just 8km's outside of Calitzdorp at the Calitzdorp Dam in the Klein Karoo. Fish Eagle Eco Camp is a paradise for the nature lover. A great getaway for the day, weekend or even longer. Day trippers welcome Activities include fishing (Yellow fish), sailing, canoeing, swimming, kite surfing, wind surfing, boating, camping, mountain biking, 4x4 route, brei and picnic & star gazing. Fish Eagle Eco Camp has an events venue, 2 x bomas to rent for group functions.

Drupkelders - loosely translated into Dripping Cellars, are rock pools in the Knysna forest. Combine a 3. 5km indigenous forest walk with a visit to magnificent rock pools in the Homtini River in the Knysna Forest. These massive rock pools offer deep, cola-coloured waters to cool off in and even a waterfall to clamber up next to (to another series of pools) . Take a rucksack with picnic and swimming things and wear good walking shoes as there is a steep section near the river. Due to the exclusivity of this gem, only 12 persons a day are allowed in and a Sanparks permit is required (Wildcards are not accepted for this walk) . It is not expensive and you are required to keep the permits on you should officials ask you for it by the rock pools. This trail starts at the Forest Edge Nature-lovers Retreat gate entrance. Situated on the banks of the beautiful Swartvlei Estuary in Sedgefield, Fish Eagle Green is one of the town's most popular swimming and picnicking spots. This large grassy common is great for kids and there are several brei facilities available. Where: Turn left at the Engen Garage just outside of Sedgefield, and carry on with the road until you reach the water's edge.
