The advent of light steel frame building in South Africa is one of the most exciting developments in recent times in the steel and building industries. While this method of building has been used in the US, Europe and Australia for decades, it was only recently introduced to our shores. It offers quality, cost efficiency and speed of erection for low-rise residential and non-residential buildings.

The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) is a statutory body established in terms of the Engineering Profession Act (EPA), 46 of 2000. The ECSA's primary role is the regulation of the engineering profession in terms of this Act. Its core functions are the accreditation of engineering programmes, registration of persons as professionals in specified categories, and the regulation of the practice of registered persons. Consequently, the ECSA is the only body in South Africa that is authorised to register engineering professionals and bestow the use of engineering titles, such as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng, Pr Techni Eng, Pr Cert Eng, on persons who have met the requisite professional registration criteria.

The Institution of Certificated Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, South Africa, is the only learning and vocational institution that caters for all certificated electrical and mechanical engineers in South Africa. It is also the only institution for certificated engineers that enjoys statutory recognition in terms of the Engineering Profession of South Africa Act.

The South African Institution of Mechanical Engineering (SAIMechE) is the senior body representing the discipline of mechanical engineering in South Africa.

The Southern African Society for Trenchless Technology promotes the use of trenchless methods for the installation, rehabilitation, and maintenance of underground services with minimal surface and environmental disruption. Trenchless Technology (TT) is technology for the servicing, rehabilitation and replacement of existing and the construction of new, public utilities and other services underground, without the digging if trenches, including the development of all kinds of underground condition-assessment and mapping techniques, tunnelling devices and specialist machinery, materials and equipment. Members of the society include contractors, service, authorities, consulting engineers and suppliers

CEASA is a voluntary association of Clinical Engineering practitioners. Our members practice at all levels within both state and private sector healthcare delivery systems in South Africa, also in the allied medical devices supply and support industry. CEASA's objectives are fully defined within our Constitution, however some key fundamentals are: *To encourage and promote the personal and professional development of all our Clinical Engineering members. *To reinforce and elevate the Clinical Engineering profession as seen by all healthcare professionals. *To strive for continued Clinical Engineering excellence and partnership within all healthcare provision environments. *To directly represent all levels of Clinical Engineering practitioners within the Engineering Council of South Africa. *To foster and establish international links and co-operation surrounding all aspects of Clinical Engineering.

The overall control of the Institution is vested in the Corporate Members, to whom is reserved the right to vote on all matters affecting the policy of the Institution. The management of the Institution is vested in the Council. The Council is made up of Office Bearers, Chairmen of Branches, Chairmen of Working Committees, and representatives of the Company Affiliates. The Office Bearers comprise the Honorary President, the President, the President-Elect, the Honorary Treasurer and the Immediate Past President. Branch Chairmen are elected from within their respective branches. Working Committees handle the various functions common to the Institution as a whole, rather than being branch-related. These include: Communications Education Finance and administration Membership affairs Specialist groups Technology programme Young member liaison The Chairmen of these Working Committees are appointed by Council, and the members are recruited from within the branches.
